Two fantastic matches in prospect

Wednesday, February 1st, 2012

Roger Federer is the 8/13 favourite to make the final of the Australian Open in his match against 13/10 Rafael Nadal. Perhaps the most famous of all the meetings between these two rivals was the 2008 Wimbledon Final which went to five sets and William Hill offer 21/10 that this match goes the full distance.

Andy Murray has enjoyed a relatively easy path to the semi finals as have Nadal, Djokovic and Federer, easily landing Hill’s 11/4 pre tournament odds that the big four would contest the semis. Murray is 15/8 to defeat Novak Djokovic in their semi final although the Serb is 4/9 to make the final. Murray is also 6/1 to reach number one at any point during 2012.

“We are not surprised that the big four have made the semis, they are streets ahead of the other challengers. The two semi-finals will should be fantastic, one a repeat of last year’s final and the second a showcase of the greatest rivalry of the current generation,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.

Nominate the finalists: 7/5 Federer/Djokovic; 12/5 Djokovic/Nadal; 37/10 Murray/Federer; 57/10 Murray/Nadal

6/1         Andy Murray to reach number one in the world at any point during 2012

Will Djokovic rescue bookies from Nadal victory?

Monday, January 30th, 2012

Novak Djokovic is the 4/6 favourite to win the Australian Open with William Hill, after his five set epic against Andy Murray. Rafael Nadal is 6/5 to win the tournament.

The most likely outcome is a 3-0 victory for Djokovic, offered at 7/2, while a 3-1 victory is 14/5 and 3-2 is 9/2. Hills offer 5/2 that the match goes to five sets.

Djokovic is now 14/1 to complete the Grand Slam this year, with Nadal 25/1.

Azarenka 33/1 to achieve Grand Slam this year!

Sunday, January 29th, 2012

Victoria Azarenka destroyed Maria Sharpova in this morning’s Australian Open final and William Hill make her 33/1 to win the Grand Slam this year. She has also been slashed to 4/1 joint favourite to win the French Open.

“Azarenka looked so much more mature than her 22 years and the way in which she dispatched Sharapova shows that she is not overawed at all and the Grand Slam could well be on,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.

6/1 For Sharapova Or Azarenka To Be Warned For Noise!

Thursday, January 26th, 2012

Victoria Azarenka is a slight favourite, at 5/6, to defeat Maria Sharapova in the Australian Open. The match, which could in theory be dubbed the ‘battle of the bawlers’ looks likely to be a close affair with Sharapova Even money for victory. It may be a close match, but Hills are odds on at 8/13 that it does not go into three sets. Both ladies have a tendency to get a little overexcited when playing and William Hill offer 6/1 that either finalist is warned during the match for making excessive noise.

As Rafael Nadal made his way into the final of the men’s draw, William Hill were bemoaning the fact that they offered top price on Nadal to win the tournament before the start. Hills offered him at 8/1 and punters piled in making the Spaniard a six figure loser.

“We are very nervous about Rafa now,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly. “There are some that said he was carrying an injury and some that said Djokovic and Federer were too good, but he has certainly silenced the criticism, dispatching Federer with relative ease.”

Novak Djokovic is 2/5 to defeat Andy Murray in the semi final of the Australian Open with the Brit 2/1 to cause an upset.

5/6 Azarenka; 1/1/ Sharapova

Number of sets in match: 8/13 two; 23/20 three

6/1 Either Sharapova or Azarenka to be warned during the final for excessive noise (1/12 not to)
